I was reading msn or abc news at work and came upon a pet gadgets story. They had this thing called a Quickfinder listed. Supposed to be like a stud finder I guess, letting you know where the quick is in the nail so you don't cut it too short. I think it's a great idea (if it actually works), since most of our dogs have those oh-so-lovely black toe nails!

They have small & medium sizes, medium for dogs up to 75lbs. They say the "super" is coming out in fall 2008, for those dogs with large or hard nails.

Sounds interesting enough, and would take all the guess work out of clipping the black toe nails. Just figured I'd post as this is the first I have ever heard of it and see what everyone thinks.

I have this and it works to a point. It is very hard to get the green light or ok to cut. I have to work with it a while. The main problem is the clipper itself is not sharp enough. Will not cut the nail sometimes. I like to trim then dremmel but sometimes like I said above -it will not cut.

I have only heard negative reviews from people about these. Once you get the hang of doing nails it is fairly easy to avoid the quick. If you are nervous (and if the dog will let you) you can clip a tiny bit off the tip and repeat until you see a change in the color in the center of the nail. With many nails, even black ones, you can see the shape of the nail changes, it will start to curve and/or become much more narrow. This is usually right around where the quick is. I hope this helped some.
