Hi Everyone, out 8 month female gsd has been chasing her tail non stop for the past 4 days (she is still intact). We haven't changed any thing in her routine and she was 100% fine before this. Every time she is out of her kennel area and free in the house she immediately begins to chase her tail. We have tried toys to distract her from this but to no avail. Is this something normal for this age, or should we take a trip to the vet.

How much exercise does she get? Sounds like she's hyper and bored

My pup does it, but after a walk/ training or day at the in-laws she's zonked and only gets up to eat/ go potty, lol

It's odd that this just started. Any changes in her routine, the household? Anything that is causing stress for you that she might be picking up on? Has anyone ever used a laser pointer with her?

It is serious, as this is OCD behaviour, and can get worse. Exercise her to the hilt, get her involved in lots of stimulating activities, and do consult your vet.

There's been no change in her routine and even after exercise she's been doing it. We're gonna consult the vet for next course of action

It is a serious condition. Cople of ideas: wearing an Elizabethan collar or something similar so she can't reach her tail? This will treat the symptoms, not the cause though. Play with her when she NOT chasing her tail as a reward for desired behavior. How about a treadmill? Walking on one is incompatible with tail chasing. Frequent exercise and crate time.
