Cody was neutered at 5-6 mths I believe... I don't remember anymore, although it was sometime last year. NOW if I had a chance to redo it again, I would wait a little longer and then get him neutered.

Jean beat me to asking that question about EPI. Wicked no no if she's got it.

I waited until Lukas was 2 years old. But due to he was crypto we had no choice. I wasn't going to take the risk of Lukas getting testicle cancer. But our last 2 male shepherds were not fixed and had no problems. I have noticed that Lukas has gained a little weight, but we have been walking twice a day. He loves it.. He sits waiting in the morning for his walk. He is very impatient
He was a hand full when we first started, but now its like walking a invisible dog on the leash. He is great. Love the one on one time with him. And I want to keep the extra weight off, dont want to add any extra strain on his joints.

I've only had male shepherds and I've never neutered them. I don't see the need when my boys are never out of my sight. Their reproductive parts are a natural way of life, I wouldn't want someone to take my reproductive parts because someone believes there are too many people in the world.

Absolutly fine if it suits you. Just know in the back of your mind that they have a MUCH higher risk of prostactic cancer in later life.

I've done the research, and millions of dogs go un neutered who don't get that cancer. Personally, I think poor diet and lack of exercise contribute more to any kind of cancer then being neutered or not.

P.S. Don't try to guilt me into neutering my boys, I will do what I see fit for them, and taking away their breeding rights before they are even adults are horrible. I'm not planning on breeding them right now, but who's to say I won't get them titled and plans change? You never know, for right now, they are just my companions, and potential agility buddies!

My cross breed dog was neutered at the age of 6 months and died a couple of weeks ago from prostatic cancer.

I hope all of you that are considering breeding your dog spend a lot of time in the breeding section of this board as well as in the Urgent and Non-Urgent sections of this board. Gsds are a dime a dozen out there, even the really nice ones like this Czech import: http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum/ubb...true#Post811887

Myrika was spayed at a little over 18 months. It was in the breeder's contract not to spay her prior to 18 mo or it would void out the health guarantee.

I'm glad we waited. If she didn't bleed so much during her heat cycle, I probably would have put it off for another 6 months.

I had Midge's boy pups neutered at 3 months. All 4 pups are leggy (but don't know for sure what the mix is) and the girls are not fixed yet (ran out of money is the only reason). Midge looks like a small WGSD, almost perfect proportions so it's funny to see such leggy pups. Dad might have been a yellow lab. Midge neglected to inform me that she was in a family way when I rescued her. lol
