Just acquired a new GSD from a training kennel that specializes in PTSD animals for veterans. Indi is a 22 month old spayed female who has been obedience trained for on and off leash work. She was determined to be too slow in transitioning to become a full fledged service animal so she needed to find a forever family home to go to and be a much loved pet. Indi came home with us and began her adjustment to life as a pet immediately. She did have a couple of small issues along the way but has overcome them both already and is making great strides in socializing and just being a pet. She originally was conditioned to consider the leash as "Working" and would not eat or stray far from whoever was holding the lead. She also had some difficulty with calming down and eating at mealtimes. We have eliminated the leash for now and found a way that is comfortable for her to eat so she is moving past that quickly. She is a character and has decided she likes to steal kitchen towels and carry them around the yard. She also loves squeaky toys and playing fetch so we spend a couple of hours a day throwing her ball and playing fetch to insure she is getting adequate exercise. We are introducing a number of different toys to maintain her interest and give her a good variety to choose from. So far she is adapting well and it has been a while since we had a young dog in the home so it is a relearning experience for both us and the dog. Pics to follow soon.
