Hi,

So I’ve noticed hans has been limping and licking his left paw for the par 5 days. It seems quite painful as he won’t let me touch him. I noticed yesterday the flesh has been exposed and as if the flesh is being eaten out and spreading. Took him to the vet and they said it seems like a form of pododermatitis and gave oral antibiotics and fusicort. I don’t know i’m not convinced with their diagnosis.

I'd not heard of this before. From a quick internet search, the diagnosis doesn't necessarily address the cause but rather the symptoms - the cause could range from allergies to injury.

If the link you provided (https: etc) is for the prescription, that sounds like a pretty serious medication. The cream (fusicort) from what I could find, is to treat fungal & bacterial infections. One thing you don't mention is if you were given ideas on how to keep Hans from continuing his licking of the affected paw. You may need to resort to a "cone" collar for that but I would think discouraging his licking/fussing is important.

The diagnosis is broad enough that, yes, I would accept it. It would be nice to know the cause but since dogs aren't real good at explaining these things, the symptoms often are what we have to go on.

Good luck with the treatment. I hope if succeeds.
