Hi my name is Ana,

We saw this stray german shephard puppy and have been feeding him for a week. He was dropped off by some railroad tracks in Stafford, texas and he has stayed there, I guess hoping for his owner would return. This is were we feed him at since we cannot take him home because we have 2 dogs of our own and are not sure what causes his skin irritation ( we are not sure if it is manje or just an allergic reaction to the fleas).

I am willing to help with the cost to get him better. I just want him to find a good home. He has great temperment and is very gentle and full of love he is not possessive with his food and very smart. ( He recognized the sound of my car!!! and comes out of the sewer hole he sleep in.)

Oh my God, that poor little guy. That third picture just rips my heart out. He's probably waiting there so patiently because he thinks his owners are going to come back for him. Surely, there is a rescue in Texas that can take him in. PLEASE!

This is just awful. Its cruelity beyond description. This poor boy is sleeping in a sewer hole for cover just waiting for his people to return...Its times like this that its embarresing to be part of the 'human race'.

I've sent an email to the Greater GSD rescue of Houston using the above link. I will also call and leave them a voice mail. I'll let everyone know the min. I hear from them but will be off line most of the day. I really want to thank the lady that is helping this wonderful boy.

I know just how you feel on that one lately... I agree this is just terrible and my heart breaks for this boy. If the rescue can help, we will send a donation for his care- PLEASE send me an email at [email protected] to make sure I get info on where to send our help.

I tried calling but can't get thru (am getting a lull and then a fast busy on the phone number). I'm really worried about this boy. Are these working train tracks...meaning are trains using them??? He's just not safe out in the middle of nowhere with nobody to take care of him-anything could happen. I hope the rescue contacts me soon.

I should claify, I tried calling the GS rescue of Houston and I got the above response (lull and fast busy). I'm reluctant to call Ana because I don't want to inindate her with calls but at the same time I am very worried about this boy. He's friendly NOW, he's a sweetie NOW, but whos to say what he would be like if just left out there with no one to care for him. This has got to be taking a toll on him. I will call Ana tonight and update you guys tomarrow with what I find out. Do we have any board members in that area??? This boy needs our help.

...not to mention...I worry about him getting hurt/killed...or disappearing....

I called twice but got her voice mail each time. I hate to leave a message when its long distance but if I can't reach her by tomarrow night I'll have to do just that. We should def be worried about his boy-just look at the Current Affairs board...its filled with dogs shot, knifed, you name it. Somehow we need to get this baby out of the sewer hole he's staying in and into a soft and safe cozy bed.

To all,

I went to my regular vet yesterday with Duke. GREAT NEWS!!! He was heartworm negative, skin scrape showed no mange, oddly enough he has NO FLEAS!!, he recieved a shot for the itchy skin, he's on antibiotics to clear his skin, he is up to date on all his shots now, and everything esle was fine. He is a healthy skinny dog with the itchy. Accourding to the vet the hair loss and the skin rash was mostly due to malnutrition and the ditch hole he was sleeping in. The water was probably filthy and Duke was probably sleeping on accumulated junk that was there. It was Dukes lucky day Dr. Gordon Parham DMV gave Duke a Free bag of puppy food!

I took him to CAPS http://www.cap4pets.org/ today. And he was neutered and they even repaired his umbilical hernia while in sergery!!! I call this a 2fer! LOL!

This is the greater news. God was with us yesterday, while at the vets I met a girl named Brandi who fosters animals for the German Shephard rescue here in Houston. She was at the vets with one of her foster GS for a check up and when she saw Duke she took some pictures, told us who she was with, and that she would email someone form the orgaization to see if they could take him in! I was estatic!!!

She has opened up her heart and home for Duke if the rescue decided to take him. I hope they contact me. The orgaization has procedures for adoption to ensure that their dogs have a good loving forever home. I will keep all who have contacted me posted and I will also post on the forum.

Thank you all!!!! GOD BLESS EVERYONE!!! We ALL are playing a part to ensure that Duke has a loving family and home!

Great news! I hope the gsd rescue can take him. Thanks for taking such good care of him!

Please be careful placing him through Craig's List. Check references, do a home check and adopt him out on a contract that requires them to return him to you if they ever need to rehome him.

Is he there with you at your house now?

My guy, Rafi, was dumped when he was an older puppy and had to survive on his own for a while. These stories just get me every time.

I agree with you. That is why I hope the GS rescue calls me tomorrow and tells me they can take him. I don't feel comfortable handing him over to any craig's list callers that have called so far. At least the rescue has rules and criteria to meet in order to adopt an animal.

Duke is at my moms tonight. He's only 2 houses down the steet. Say a little prayer for us tonight and hope for the best tomorrow.

I'm Rosa, I left you a voice mail this morning before comming here to the boards. I'm thrilled to see you have taken such good care of him. He sure is beautiful. I also contacted the GSD rescue of Greater Houston and am expecting to hear from them today hopefully. I'll be sure to post anything I hear.
