This DOG - ID#A726511

I am an unaltered male, brown and black German Shepherd Dog.

My age is unknown and I weigh 80 pounds.

I was picked up in Charlotte.

I have been at the shelter since Jun 27, 2008.

I am available for adoption.

This information is less than 1 hour old.
For more information about this animal, call:

He is heartworm pos but the woman who found him and surrendered him said she will pay for his hw treatment and anything else she can afford.

He was great with her and her husband and with their 9 month old Golden. He walked very well on a leash. He is in the stray kennels but is available for adoption.

I have worked with the shelter a lot and IF a rescue can take they may work with you to extend the euth date.

The lady who found him really wants him saved. I already told her to ensure his safety she needs to pull and foster until he is adopted or can be placed into a rescue but she is going out of town Thursday.

Bumping up.
Re: Charlotte, NC Euth 7/5/08 HW+ B/T Male

Supposedly a national GSD rescue called and said they will pull. Is that someone on this board? I am not aware of a national GSD rescue. There is other unverified info going around as well. I am trying to get at the truth b/c if there really is NOT a rescue backing this dog then he is dead.

Ok, this dog does NOT have rescue back up. He will not be euthanized on 7/5 so he has a few more days. Please help!

He knows how to give his paw. He seems to act like he was someone's pet. No one appears to be looking for him though. The shelter has contacted surrounding shelters and posted him as a FOUND dog.

I entered a duplicate post on this guy....OOPS!....this is the info I received this morning:

My husband, Cameron, rescued an adult male German Shepherd Friday (6/27) at Highway 321 and Interstate 85. We immediately took the dog to the vet; he spent the afternoon at Matthew's Animal Clinic and was seen by Dr. Ann Meadows.

Dr. Meadows estimated "Duke" to be around five years old, issued him a rabies vaccine (V-421769), bathed and treated him for fleas and ticks, and noted he weighed 81 pounds and had worn canine teeth as well as mild gingivitis. She also determined he has an enlarged/infected prostate and suggested he be treated with antibiotics followed by neutering.

We brought Duke home from the vet where he spent the evening with us. He had a good appetite and even went on a walk with our Golden Retriever around our neighborhood- he did very well on a leash. However, we made the agonizing decision to release "Duke" to the Animal Control Division of Charlotte-Mecklenburg based on information that this would increase his chances of legal acceptance into a rescue program.

As of today, Duke has graduated into the "Adoption" category, but Animal Control has stated that, due to capacity, Duke must be adopted by this Saturday afternoon, July 5th.

We turned over all of the medical records and medicines to Animal Control.

"Duke" is on Panacur (4 gram/3 pack) for deworming once a day and Ciprofloxacin (500 mg) twice a day for the prostate infection. Animal Control assigned Duke the following number: A726511.

If anyone would be interested in adopting or fostering Duke, we would be forever grateful. Please know I would be happy to donate money to whomever takes him for his continued care, food, etc. as I would love to see this sweet boy find a home. Attached is his photograph.

"Duke"

Animal Control No. A726511 (if you live in Charlotte,NC, I think you would need to call 311, if not, I would suggest you call Catherine at her numbers listed below)

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Also, you are welcome to forward this email to anyone who might be interested or be in a position to help Duke.

Sincerely,

Catherine
