Now that my body is completely healed up from a half marathon last month, I am going to start running again. I would like to take the 3 year old with me on the short runs. I was thinking about starting him out at 1-2 miles a day and building up from there.

Anyone have any experiences/recommendations?

Begin his training like a human beginner runner. If he has no health problems and is not overweight, he should be fine to start out at a couple miles. Make sure you don't run him on a full stomach, keep the pace easy at about a 8 or 9 minute mile. If you have access to trails to run on, I think those are best for human and canine joints alike. :)

Enjoy, I think there is nothing quite like a dog for a running partner.

I'm anxiously awaiting the day I can bring my boy with me. Someone recommended the Couch to 5K program to start him off. It's what I plan on using when the time comes. It's actually how I started running. :)

if i were going to run with my dog i wouldn't start out with
1 to 2 mile runs. build your distance up slowly. there's no
need to rush. allow your dog to build up his stamina.
