I'm not sure if this post will work - I have been having IT issues in the forum but trying anyway. My neighbor dog sat for me one day last week and gave my dog a rawhide chew. Since then his appetite has seemed to really diminish. His energy level seems a little lower but not lethargic. His poop is a little softer but he is definitely pooping which makes me believe there is no intestinal blockage. No puking or anything. Just not eating as much. For almost a week now. He is drinking water though. I may be wrong but I think this is related to the rawhide. I plan to feed him white rice and chicken for dinner to see if he will take it but any other suggestions? Pepto? Pepcid? Thanks ya'll.

I offered him chicken and rice for the past three meals --- he ate it all. So he is eating now but with less gusto and excitement than normal. Am going to take him to the vet just to be on the safe side. Thank you for the feedback!

thank ya'll for the posts. i took him to the vet last night and everything checked out in the overall general exam. paddyd, the vet said what you stated, that her though is that the raw hide irritated his stomach lining. her other thought is that there may still be an undigested piece of rawhide sticking around but she said that is less likely since there is no vomiting and since he is pooping like normal.

she suggested that he take one pepcid a day and she prescribed a prescription version of pepto bismol.

so we will see how this goes. i will say that last night i gave offered him the food that he'd been normally eating (taste of the wild praire) and he walked away. i then offered him a small bit of orijen and he basically inhaled it. perhaps this isn't raw hide related at all but just that i need to switch food?!?
