Too Late??? Why are there so many great GSDs in KY?
I post the GSDs that have been posted on KY Central on this forum b/c there is no GSD rescue in KY.
It's not specific to KY. As we know, thousands of good dogs die in shelters in most states, incl. KY. A mass killing that IS preventable if only more people took action.

This looked like a healthy, young dog. She had a friendly expression looking at the camera. One would have had to meet her, but most likely she had no major issues. Unless a rescue stepped up last night, she is dead now.

Mission Statement:
Estill County Animal Shelter is a County-operated shelter in rural Kentucky. Dogs are held 5-7 days before we euthanize. We hold as long as we possibly can. All owner turn -ins can be euthanzied when they are brought in but we try to give them that same chance at life as the stray.
Because we are such high volume and serve 5 counties, we cannot hold a dog very long for rescue. We will always try to do everything we can to help out, but understand that we have a 25 kennel capacity, we always have to make room for dogs coming into the shelter. Animals are euthanized EVERY week on Thursday morning at 5:00 am.

Adoption: Fee: $25. That includes a 7-way shot, license, and rabies (if old enough). Adoption fees can be made by credit card to our paypal account estillcoanimalshelter@yahoo.com but the fee is $28, to cover Paypal's fees. If you are interested in adopting a dog from the shelter, the $25 pull/adoption fee MUST be paid ($28 for paypal) and arrangements made for the dog to be OUT of the shelter before the dog is considered safe.
For Information regarding pull fees, dogs, policy, general questions, or to adopt, please contact estillcoanimalshelter@yahoo.com

Rescue: Reputable rescues are always welcomed. Pull fees ($25.00) can be made to our paypal account estillcoanimalshelter@yahoo.com but the fee is $28, to cover Paypal's fees. Some vet services are available for additional costs, including spay/neuter, heartworm test, and rabies vaccine.
Transport:
For Information regarding rescues, puppies, cats, transport assistance, & boarding, contact estillcountypetsindanger@gmail.com
Boarding: For Information regarding rescues, puppies, cats, transport assistance, & boarding, contact estillcountypetsindanger@gmail.com
Contact (Shelter): Sandie: Phone: 606-723-3587 Email: estillcoanimalshelter@yahoo.com
Sponsoring: If you have room in your heart, but not in your home for one of our pets, you can sponsor their spay/neuter fee, which would greatly increase their chances of finding a forever home. If you'd like to sponsor a dog or cat, $50-$65 is usually all it takes to get one of our animals altered. A $25 sponsor fee will be enough to save most animals by allowing them to get to rescues. If you're interested in sponsoring one of our animals, please email Sandie at estillcoanimalshelter@yahoo.com or call Sandie at 606-723-3587 to see what is needed to sponsor a pet. Oh, my answer was rhetorical, too! I know that you are aware of what is happening, Jan, and that you are acting on the knowledge. Let's move to KY!

It's maddening that she was pts. And the many mutts that died with her, too.

Whoever can, please foster. Foster homes save lives. And funds for temporary boarding when time is of the essence.
