I take Griffin for regular jogs in the mornings, for at least 30 minutes.... About at our turn around point, I usually let him drink a little water. Is this a bad thing to do? It would seem mean not to let him drink as it's pretty hot and humid out even in the mornings here. I've read just enough on bloat to make me weary of it. Should I not let him drink during vigorous activity? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

a small quantity of water is ok; usually i let them have maybe a cup of ice water after our 3 mile hikes; then, when they've cooled off for a while, i give them more; i still watch them and don't let them guzzle the whole bucket; i had a great dane bloat and die a couple of years ago and i'm soooooo paranoid about bloat it's almost pathologic; w/the heat they've got to have some water; if i have access to a hose, i spray them down, esp on their bellies and necks and where legs meet the body; this helps cool them off too

i hope this helps

btw, the issue is the weight of the water in the stomach; a gal of water weighs 8 lbs or so;

I allow one water bottle per dog while out on our walks. Each water bottle is labeled with their name. They are offered water at three points in the walk. Midway to our destination, at our destination, and midway home they are offered one-third of their water bottle. At each point in our walk where they get water we stop and cool off slightly before continuing.
