I'm concerned my GSD may not be purebred and is smaller then the avg GSD his age. He will be 8 months old in 2 weeks. He is about 22" from floor to shoulder and weighs about 52lbs, not to mention his ears have never stood up ( we took care not to mess with his ears as well as give him chew toys and bones to strengthen the ear muscles). I have attached pics. I was hoping to get some opinions on this?? He is a Czech working line breed.

This dog does not look purebred to me. But he is handsome! Only way to tell for sure is a DNA test, but if you love the dog who cares, he is YOUR dog now! Love and appreciate him for who/what he is!

Agreed... does not look purebred, nor Czech. There are other giveaways aside from size and ears. My adult male is 22.5” and in his 50’s.

Where was this pup acquired? GSD x Rottie perhaps?

Agreed too. Does not look purebred. Standard GSD male height is 24"-26". Do a DNA test if you know for sure and know what to expect from his growth / characteristics based on breeds.

Well, he still has quite a bit of growing to do. His growth plates are still knuckled and such. He does not look purebred. Did you pay for a Czech line GSD? If so what is the supposed pedigree? He is a handsome boy, for sure. But no, doesn't look pure GSD.

Thank you for ur response. I have ordered a DNA test so we will see. Shared my concerns with the breeder and he informed me there is a chance he could have ...dachschund mixed in. Apparently they were not very attentive to the mother in heat..Needless to say, I am very upset..

Wow. That's a little screwed up. Nonetheless, he looks happy and handsome. But if the DNA comes out and it confirms that he's not purebred, I'd look into it and probably would want some kind of financial reimbursement.

Just very irresponsible breeding imo. I don't think you'd even get a dog this size if bred with a dachshund. Your dog looks like a rottie gsd mix, but is much smaller than any rottie gsd mix I've ever seen. The ones I have met tend to be on the heavier side, 100+lbs. I'd honestly confront the breeder and make him pay for testing or threaten civil law suit, especially if he claimed it was pure bred and fabricated some papers in order to sell it. At the end of the day the most important thing is that you love your dog, regardless of breed.

Yes, he definitely has the aloofness and goofy attitude GSDs are known for and we love him with all our hearts and spoil him to death ❤. When i discussed with breeder he offered full compensation or pick of next litter. I don't know what I want to do just yet. We are just upset we were misled if that's the case and wanted some opinions on the matter. Thank you all for your insight and I will make sure to follow up on DNA results!

Pick of the next litter of what? You don't even know what you have for sure now. Sounds like the breeder is willing to do the right thing, but if it were me, I would take the compensation and look for another breeder. Best of luck!

Dachshund and a GSD...sounds like my first almost marriage lol

Ah, OP sorry you aren't sure. This definitely is not a reputable breeder at all. I'd ask for financial compensation. Not another "maybe" pup. He is a beautiful boy and I agree looks very well loved.

Interesting. I would have guessed there was bully breed in there. I would say for sure take the compensation and not another puppy!

Have you shared these results with the breeder?

He is handsome! I was wondering which DNA test you did? I used Wisdom Panel 2.0 on our Norwegian mix (that we were told was 100% GSD--as a pup he looked like a black sable), but am still not convinced about the other breeds it said were in there. LOL
