Looking for experiences please.
I have a 4 month old pup, socialised carefully from 8 weeks (taken everywhere and allowed to observe everything, many many people and dogs etc.) Pup did very well, relaxed in all situations, we rewarded eye contact, we limited true interaction to certain family members and family dogs to keep it positive for the pup.
Pup had no negative experiences. They woke up one day at 13 weeks and started reacting fearfully to people across the street and dogs passing within a few metres. This has progressed to reacting to people at the other end of a field, any dogs they can see, and now birds/cars/plastic bags. All things pup was fine with until a couple weeks ago. We’ve got a great behaviourist and also a breed specific trainer on board but was wondering if anyone had experienced a pup like this. I would like to hear of pups that grew out of this behaviour but gut feeling is we’re in this for the long haul.

Every time I hear about a fear of a “plastic bag” in a pup I immediately think “fear stage”. Why does your pup need a behaviorist? Your pup was a little sheltered, interacted only with known persons/dogs and now he just started noticing the world around him. Don’t overdo the cookie throwing and corrections, don’t force him to turn away and look at you, just acknowledge, maintain a safe distance and let him work it out.

What is your reaction when the pup reacts fearfully? What are you thinking? Feeling?

What are you doing to help the pup move forward?
