Hi- I did a search for this but couldn't find much on it. My dog has been switched over to a new ford (from Purina One Senior to Wellness Senior). It transition has been very slow, about 2 months. She has been on 100% Wellness for the last 4 days. He stool comes out in two stages, pretty solid/firm in the beginning and ends with wet mess, similar to pancake batter. What does this mean? Should I be concerned? She is happy otherwise, energetic, playful, etc. I will be switching her again, this time to Orijen, not sure if I should wait till this matter clears up or just go ahead and switch now.

It could also be the food, may be to rich for her??

You could be feeding to much.. Sounds like the feeding to much food poop =)

We had the same problem with Wellness. It's good food but it's not for every dog. We switched to TOTW and it keeps everything firm and they love it.

She is 45 pounds and gets two cups a day (1 in AM, 1 in PM). I'm not sure if it is too much, the bag recommends 2 and www.dogfoodavisor.com has a calculator which I used, it too recommends 2 cups of my specific food. Maybe it is too much. I gave her a little less tonight to see what happens tomorrow AM.

We had the same problem with Wellness. It's good food but it's not for every dog. We switched to TOTW and it keeps everything firm and they love it.

I will be switching her to Orijen. I wanted to wait till she got used to this food before switching her again, but looks like I should switch her soon. I have enough of the Wellness left to do a very slow transition to Orijen. Hope Orijen is all its said to be. A little concerned about going from food that has 18% protein to one that has 40%...I'm sure that will lead to some intestinal distress. Slow transition will be the key I think.

I had the same poop with Brody the other day, I agree, I think it was feeding him too much. The husband had to feed them for the day while I was gone and most likely didn't follow my written instructions

I also switched to Orijen and saw similar poops- but within a short time all was normal. Stosh has been doing really well on Orijen, doesn't need to eat as much so I had to be careful not to overfeed

The poop is pretty firm, with the end being just a tad bid wet. Since I'm transitioning her off the wellness, my guess is that the end will firm up too once I get more of the orijen in the mix. Thanks for all your suggestions. Hope she takes well to Orijen as I don't feel like trying something new.

You know I haven't been on this site too long but how much do we love our dogs? I mean we monitor their poops almost every time, feed them the best food we can afford, the best brushes, leashes, collars and crates and everything else but..lol, this will sound....iffy lol but how many times to we look at our "human" kids? LOL "Yeah, little Johnny's poops are hard but then turn into mush at the end" Crazy right? I not making fun of this post, this thought just popped in my head as I was reading it (I may need help lol). We sure do love our dogs!!

If you had told me 2 years ago I would be inspecting what comes out of a dogs rear end, I would have said no way....but got to keep on eye on her. She is my fiance's dog and I say that if it wasn't for the dog I may not be engaged to this girl. Love the dog 2 much
