Hi All,

We recently adopted a GS mix (see post earlier today). We were told that he gets constipated when stressed. We had him for 5 days and noticed he was still struggling to defecate and took him to the vet. After a manual exam the vet said that he had a tumor and given it's location it was definantely cancer. Also, that removal of the tumor was nearly impossible given it's location and should complete removal actually occur it would render him incontinent.

The former owner said he would take the dog back given that we just lost our dog of 11 years to cancer. The former owner took him to his vet today and his vet concluded that the issue was actually a polyp and not cancer. Has anyone experienced something like this?

The foster family's vet is unable to remove the polyp (evidently they do not have the right equipment). Does anyone know of a vet in/near Columbus, Ohio or Bucyrus, Ohio?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. We would love to get this dog back to good health if we can and bring him home.

Thank you.

You can go to Ohio State - there would be teams of people to look at the dog! There's another practice in Columbus that is supposed to be top notch too, but I am betting more expensive than the college.

I am sorry I cannot remember the name of the vet clinic. It may be MedVet:
Medvet-CVES

We rescue dog that was almost euthanized because of similar potty problems. Several vets saw him and could not figure it out. When he was taken to be pts, the vet did an exam and it turned out that he had a perianal hernia. He was brand new after surgery.

A proper diagnosis is essential and without biopsy and probably endoscopy it is hard to say what it is. I also recommend a university hospital, they have specialists in place and they are less costly than specialists.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to try to get him in to OSU as several people have recommended that. I also left a message with the scheduler at MedVet. Hopefully one of the two will get him in.

I will post the outcome so you all know.
