This may or may not be a silly question...

Our GSD puppy is 9 weeks old and his ears have been up for a little over a week. I am cleaning them every few days and I usually spend a few minutes massaging them each day, to make sure he's used to having them touched.

I'm wondering if it is possible to handle them too much, to the point of making them not stand any more? I'm not talking about being extra rough with the ears or anything like that, which I don't do .... just gentle, but regular handling...

I don't see how what you are doing could be harmful. The gentle massage not only feels good but it will definitely get him used to having his ears touched.

just the opposite -- leave the ears alone ! you don't want to damage cartilage tissue. Dog's don't need ears massaged . You can over clean too , robbing the ear's natural protective mantle .

Mia loves her ears rubbed, a gentle massage can't hurt. I don't clean them often, only if it looks like they've gotten dirty. I can imagine it can harm the ears if you clean them out too often.
