Hello Everyone :)

We just got a new GSD puppy a few days ago, and the breeder told us he was 8 weeks old. We've never had a GSD before, so we didn't know any better, but it's obvious he's only 6 weeks old. We've been watching GSD videos and the 8 week old puppies on those videos are very clearly bigger and older.

We realize many people are going to tell us to bring him back to the breeder, but we've decided not to. So, our questions is this: Where do we go from here? What can we do/not do to give him what he would normally be getting from his littermates and parents?

Thank you!

Time for a visit to the vet!

It's pretty standard to get a new puppy in for a checkup within 48-72 (ish) hours, especially if you have a contract or health warranty from the breeder.

Your vet will be able to provide more objective insight into the actual age of your puppy. Some puppies are naturally bigger, some smaller, some bolder, some quieter. This appointment will also allow you to have a conversation about vaccinations and de-worming.

If you've already visited your vet, please disregard. Welcome!

I got my puppy at 5 weeks old, she was already eating solid puppy chow and drinking water on her own. The breeders did suggest giving her cottage cheese once or twice a day to supplement for the lack of the mother not feeding them anymore.
