Everyone I would like you to introduce you to Taz!! Taz is an 18mth old boy with tons of love to give the right person. He was pulled from the Shelter over a year ago and has spent the past year in a kennel waiting for that special home. Unfortunately, he has a degenerative condition (I"m getting the name of it and will post later) in his eyes which is causing him to go blind. He gets around well and it is believed that he can see shadows. The poor boy is understandably nervous around lots of noise and new people. He needs someone preferably with GSD experience and a place where he feel secure in his enviorment. Well enough words from me....heres the handsome boy!!!
Hi everyone, my name's Taz and I've been waiting for my very own home for so long!

As you can see I'm very handsome and athletic

I've got a great profile don't you think???

And they say I have a great smile too!!

I really like to play ball...and I'm really good at it too!!

I'll just sit here and wait for you no matter how long it takes. I really would like to have a home of my very own.

For addtional information Taz please contact me or Maria of Orange County German Shepherd Rescue at http://www.gsroc.org

If anyone knows anyone who can give this boy a loving home please let me know.

No, I asked about that but she said it wasn't Pannus. Thats the only one I knew about and was thinking it might be treatable, or at least, stop its progression. Maria is going to find out what it is and let me know. As soon as I find out I will post. Isn't he a cutie??? I just can't imagine being all alone in this world and loosing my sight as well. He really needs someone who's willing to work with him, someone he can bond with, someone he can call his very own.

Rosa, his story breaks my heart.
I'm sure he'll find his perfect home, sometimes it just takes a little longer to find that special person. Giving him a Bump!

Thanks Sean Rescue Mom. I'm with you, it is heartbreaking but I too am sure he will find the perfect home. And once he gets it I don't think anyone will ever be able to pry him away from it. I have a feeling hes going to be a very special dog to some lucky person. Thanks for the bump!!!!

My heart goes out to the dogs w/special needs. Two yrs. after we adopted Sean he was diagnosed with an autoimmune illness and requires oral chemo. capsules (cyclosporine). I can't tell you how many people told us they would have their dog PTS if they required chemo. That was 7 yrs. ago and all I can think of is if we had listened to the wrong people Sean would have had his life cut short for no reason. So that is why I feel it may take a little longer for Taz to find the right home but when he does it will be with a very special person. Please keep us updated on his progress.

I agree Sean does have a wonderful mama!!!!! Yes this might be a bit of a challange but that hasn't stopped me yet
Hopefully this weekend I can get a bit of a 'marketing' plan going for him and really get word out that this boy is in need of a home. If we can reach enough people it will increase our odds of finding that special person. He is here in CA (granted its Southern California-about 500 miles away from me) but I might try to plan a trip down to meet him, get to know him a bit more and just spend some time with him....First I'll see how far I can get without the long road trip.
So please if you know anyone who knows anyone who might be interested, please don't hesitate to let me know

Hugs to all and have a great weekend!!!

One of our wonderful rescues in Southern California has offered to cross post him!!!!! I'm still waiting to hear from the others I've contacted. The more we can get his story out there the better his chances of finding his special home.
I just love his face!!! Not a lot might happen this weekend (I'm mostly off line on weekends) but if I get any updates I'll be sure to post.

I know, he's adorable. I did hear back from one of the rescues in the area and they have agreed to post him on their website as well
I'm very thankful for that and hope to hear from more over the next few days.
I'm also going to see if the media might be willing to spotlight him...you know how some of them have dogs avail for adoptions (usually as part of a news show). The LA area is huge and I just need to find ways of reaching more people. Who knows, maybe it will open some peoples eyes about rescues and the need to check them out as well when looking for their new family members.

So far only one of the rescues in the area has been willing to cross post this special needs dog. I'll write Maria (my contact at the rescue he is at) and propose my idea of asking the media for help. I know some of the new stations show dogs at shelters that are looking for homes, I would think they may be interested in helping this guy as well. Wish me luck!!!

I'm trying to see if I can get a trainner to go and work with Taz. If I was closer I could spend some time with him and work with him, but I'm not. He's now also listed on some more websites and hopefully each few days at least one more will be willing to add him to their courtesy postings

I actually had an INQUIRY about Taz. It's not a match, but thats ok. Unfortunately, she has a 22mth old child so I really can't recommend him for her, but the good news is I had a potential home for another special needs dog. I'm just thrilled that his finally getting some interest.
I think this calls for a happy dance!!

Glad your hard work is paying off and someone was interested in Taz even if it wasn't the perfect home.

Rosa, you've done really nice work with this dog. I hope it all pays off for both of you. If I were ever in trouble in life, I'd be truly blessed to find you in my corner of the ring.

ok, SOMEHOW, I really don't know how in the world I'm going to find time, but I'm going to have to go down south and see if I can spend some time with this boy. It will give me a chance to take tons of pics and really find out more about him. I'm hoping I can find a trainer in his area that will be willing to work with him. I'd bring the boy home with me but with my three it just wouldn't be good for him. This guy so needs his one special person in his life, someone who can help him find his way threw this maze called life without eyesight.
