Okay, I'm really upset and don't know what to do. I mailed an entry to Onofrio for an obedience trial this Saturday and never received a confirmation. It should have been here by now. Onofrio refuses to tell me if Rio is entered. Apparently, there's some small box on their entry form for you to make up an exhibitor code and if you don't, then they will not give you any info about your own dog if you ask. Filling out this exhibitor code box is not required to enter either. This exhibitor code stuff is buried on their website. I must enter two AKC trials a month year-round and I've never heard of such a thing and I've never had a trial secretary refuse to tell me if I'm entered.

Here's my email and their response:

<span style="color: #3333FF">Hello,

I mailed an entry for obedience at the Waukesha Kennel Club show this Saturday and have not received confirmation or any correspondence. I do not have an exhibitor code and was not aware that one was required to confirm my entry. I hope that you can tell me if I'm in the show, because I really need to know. I do not want to drive 120 miles if I am not entered. My info is as follows: etc.</span>

<span style="color: #CC0000">I cannot tell you anything about the dog or its entries without an exhibitor code. The best thing I can say is to contact the bank, if your check has cleared then the entry was made. Thank you, Customer Service</span>

I had written a reply to them but deleted it because I realized I am wasting my time. Even if I'm able to find out if my check is cashed, I don't know what the ring time is. And I was planning on taking Rio to a match tonight to prep but I will have to knock myself out to race there because I have Kayto's agility class overlapping it. If he's not entered it's not worth all the trouble.

Actually the last time I entered this same show through them I had problems as well. They mixed up my dogs and had them entered on the wrong days. At that time they did give me info and said everything was straightened out, but it wasn't and I had a big problem when I got to the show.

I want to cry.....

I think it's turning into one of 'those weeks' and it's only Tuesday. I took Flirt to conformation class last night and the person with the key to the building didn't show up. That was a waste of two hours. The match tonight is at the same club which is why I don't really feel like driving back there.

Heck, being in the ring isn't nearly as stressful as the rest of this stuff!

If I remember correctly, you can get ring times by checking either Onorfrio's website about show information or by checking directly with the club.

If it helps any, we did better when I had decided it was an excercise in futility & went ahead because I'd already spent the money. We did lots better. Something about me feeling there was nothing to loose I guess. (BTW Last one they had shut the building when I had driven 30 miles to check it out and set up the night before. I was unhappy but figured being unhappy was counter-productive & what the heck.)

Thanks middle and xeph. I couldn't find it on Onofrio but the KC website had a link to the page on Onofrio. I'm going to try the bank tomorrow and will still go even if they don't have the check back, since it may be too soon.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised because it seems that whenever I enter Rio, whatever can go wrong DOES go wrong. We had a power outage for his last two rally trials. I believe I posted about the first one that lasted 30 hours and I went to the trial after having no water or electricity and smelling like a rose. Well, I didn't mention that the same thing happened before the next trial two weeks later. That outage was only 12 hours but it lasted all night and, again, no power or water the morning of the show. Maybe I should check the forecast for Friday night. I'm afraid to ask whether lightning can strike three times!

I decided not to take Rio to the match, I didn't know if I would make it in time, even with taking him along to agility. But the main reason was the cardinal rule of training - never train your dog if you're in a bad mood. So Kayto and I went to agility and had fun once we got there and I saw my friends. Then I came home, had a glass of wine and then Rio and I had a good training session.

Good for you!!!!

And middle is right of all the show superintendents I would rather deal with Onofrio. MB-F is a disaster and Rau just plain SUCKS!!!

My check was cashed. Now I hope they don't try to charge me admission when I get there.

I'm not familiar with MBF. Haven't had to go through Rau too much. Lately I've mostly had Roy Jones and haven't had any problems. They send confirmations out very early which is a plus.

If you can bring the cancelled check with you just in case they say they never got it.

What exactly is Onofrio?

There are 2 events in Kentucky that I will be registering for and they list Superintendent Onofrio Dog Shows, L.L.C. as the trial secretary.

I get the feeling that they are the "Ticketmaster" of the dog show world.

I LOVE that quote - yes you could call them that!

Most of the all-breed conformation shows use a show superintendent to handle the entries. So when there's an obedience or rally trial offered with the conformation, then the superintendent handles those entries as well. You can't enter without going through them. You have to really read the fine print when you enter through them (as I found out!). They require extra things like putting the breed and name of show on the face of your check. They want to get people to enter on-line, but I believe they charge an extra fee for that, so I always use a paper entry.

I was entered yesterday after all. But I had to pay the admission fee because I didn't have a confirmation. It didn't help that the teenager at the gate told me that my "excuse" was the best he had heard.
When I tried to explain that I wasn't making it up, I soon realized that I was babbling about exhibitor codes and cancelled checks. When he started to look at me like I was some whack-job, I handed over the $2 to get in. Thankfully, it was only $2, but it sure didn't make me feel any better about Onofrio. That and them having the wrong ring for Novice B posted on their site.

Rio did come home with his first leg. Since it was his first OB trial and I had been home-schooling him, I wasn't sure what to expect. I mostly entered to see where he was at. So, in the end, it was worth all the trouble.

I did get to meet Jackie (Xeph) which was really nice. It was a stroke of luck that we just walked into each other, considering how large and crowded the Waukesha shows are.

I'm glad you got in and Q'd! I had an issue months back with a show. They didn't use anything like Onofrio, MBF, Roy Jones, etc but they had their show on MBF and said we could use it to enter, so I did. I entered over a month before the closing date, received conformation, and the money left my bank account within a few days. Then weeks pass and no confirmation. Two days before the show, all my friends get their paperwork and I still have nothing. My friends entered a day earlier than me, so while they were there I got them on the phone and had them go to the secretary. She had no record of my entry and blamed it on MBF. I called MBF and they instantly sent me the receipt they had showing that they had received my entry, sent my paperwork overnight, and it had been signed for at the home of the show secretary. Ha! I called the president of the show (or whoever was in charge of the entire thing), basically demanding my money back since I had copies of the receipt from MBF and my own bank statement, but they said I could still come down the next morning and be entered. You'd think that would be the end of it! I showed up over an hour early the day I was supposed to enter. The secretary didn't get there until 10 minutes before the show started and my class was first! By the time she finally got her ass in gear, I was literally slapping on my armband and going straight into the ring. Luckily, we Q'd and titled, but I'm never going to their show again, at least not when this woman is in charge!

What cluster is that?

I don't know if it's technically a "cluster", but it's 5 days with conformation, obedience and rally, that I know of. It's at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington starting August 28th. It's the first time I'll be at a show that has more than just obedience or just agility. I wouldn't be going, but I want Ciana to finish her RN before I have a specialist start looking for bone fragments in her elbow.

It wasn't easy to find. I didn't see an email address for you, so go to
http://www.onofrio.com/shwpubs.html

That should be the page for Upcoming Shows.

Scroll down to Shows Closing on August 13 and you'll see the 5 dates in Lexington.

Click on any one of the dates to download the PDF files for the Premium List and the Entry Form. (The same forms are on each day and are for all 5 days.)
