what period of time did Old World German Shepherds
exist? were Old World German Shepherds over sized (out
of standard)? was there a standard when Old World German
Shepherds existed? was Max's dogs over sized?

I may be rambling here, but I guess I just dont get the "old world german shepherd' line at all.

Now, if they say, types of german shepherds from long ago, that might make more sense to me:)

I think the expression (OWGS) has morphed over time to describe some dogs in the GSD breed but that's not how it started. This is an interestnig read:

I have the 8th revised edition of The German Shepherd Dog by
Capt. v. Stephanitz. I can't find where he mentions Horand's weight but
pg. 668 "...the reasonable weight of 71 1/2 - 75 lbs. for a male dog of a
height of 25 1/2 " and pg. 729 "...Most of those dogs with whom a breed
survey had been made during the last few years weighed between 66 and
75 lbs.; second most common, unfortunately (because of being excessively
heavy) were dogs of 77 to 791/2 lbs. The weight of most bitches varied
between 55 and 66lbs..."

He definitely wouldn't be happy.

I despise the term "old world" & have no idea where it came from.

There is a picture I have been searching for that I remember admiring growing up. It was a relative in the 40's posing with their GSD...not a huge dog at all. The coloring seemed a little pale, could have been the actual color or the picture itself.
