I'd like to get our 8 month old into nosework, just bought a Leerburg scent kit. Opinions on the Foundations of Nosework videos from Leerburg? Maybe someone has one getting dusty on a shelf somewhere?
I think our boy will love this. One of his puppy trainers got us started with this and he's a natural. So fun to watch him "find it!"

I would actually check out the Fenzi Nosework Classes. These are geared toward training for Nosework. I have seen one of the Leerburg NW vids and it is based on detection dog training, which could work, but doesn't really cover all the bases for NW, like prepping for your ORT. I sort of feel like the video was made to cash in on the rising interest in NW, the instructor doesn't even compete in NW or seem to know much about it. If you like detection style training vs. pet training, I'd check out the Dave Kroyer videos. I have only seen previews, but they seem to be well made videos. Handling for NW is a little different than handling for detection work. If you can find a NW class in your area that would be a great option to have someone guide you through the process, but also be flexible and allow you to do what works for your dog. Everyone in my class uses food as a reward, but I found that my dog prefers a toy. My instructor in totally fine with me using what works for my dog, and doesn't push any one method as the only way to train.

The big thing is deciding on what method you want to use to teach your dog the "game". Some have the dog finding food or a toy then pair the food/toy with odor and fade the food until the dog will find just odor. Some start right with odor and mark and reward the dog for showing interest in the odor and build value for odor. Some start by teaching an indication without out odor then introduce odor once the dog has a strong indication. It's mostly finding what method you like and think will work best for your pup.
