I have a 2 YO female that is not currently spayed and has always been friendly with no signs of any aggression even with visitors to the house or other animals in our home. New Years evening with fireworks going off, she attacked our 11 mo Schnauzer. The Schnauzer has been with this dog since 8 weeks and they have always gotten along tremendously. The Schnauzer did come up behind her and it took three adults in the room to get her to release the puppy. Only minimal damage to the puppy. One slight spot of blood on her neck. Keeping them separate currently but need to know if the aggression might continue or if it was just fear based from fireworks.

Is your older dog afraid of fireworks? While it does seem likely that she was in an excited, and perhaps fearful state, and that could have caused the attack, it's impossible to tell that for sure given your brief description of the event.

Years I had two small female dogs that were inseparable, even slept in the same kennel. UNTIL the Chi/mix wanted a ball that the Yorkie was next to,and she attacked her. We could never trust them again, we tried supervised meetings but it was like a switch had flipped. Thank goodness she was little and easy to pick up and put in a kennel. Hope this isn't true for your dogs, but wanted to share.

It could be that your dog is agitated, fearful, anxious because of the fireworks and the 1st thing she sees is your other dog, so she acts aggressively to your other dog.
