Stella, 11 weeks old. She’s my first GSD after years of owning Newfoundland’s. She’s been very willing to learn the house rules, but have noticed she has a nose that takes her on adventures. I’d like to embrace her sniffer. Any books to get me started teaching her to track?

IPO Or AKC tracking? If you don't want to compete in bitesports then I suggest Enthusiastic Tracking by Sil Sanders and also look up your local AKC tracking club because most offer inexpensive beginner's clinics in the spring. That's how I got started with my dog.

The clinic was a day long and consisted of basic info about how scent behaves, how dogs track and learn to track, how to measure yards with your stride (among other things it was a couple years ago now and I don't remember it all), and club members laid baby tracks for all of our green dogs to try it a few times.

We found our favorite hobby and I expect I will track with him as long as we both are able.
