My 14 week old male GSD has started a new behavior. We have started giving him bones, and large chew treats, when we try to take these from him, or pet him while hes chewing them, he growls.

When we feed him regular dog food he could care less about us being near him, and I could likley take the food right out of his mouth with no problem.

Whats the difference and how do I correct this behavior?

Take the bone and give him something else. Do not let him have the bone when he growls at you.

how long should I keep it? and try to pet him again to test him.

No 'testing'. This is a new game called ''Trade" that our dogs learn that as good as what they have is...............mom/dad may have something better!

This isn't about being the boss or alpha or making a PUPPY. This is about teaching a puppy through good calm leadership. Good luck!

Within a second its gone, and he doesn't get it back for a while. As in the rest of the day

thanks everyone, I think ive got the issue resolved for now, im gonna buy another bone soon and see if he remembers not to growl. Im not sure what the difference between the bone and the food is but I think Ive got it corrected
