We have had a long road of vet visits with our 7 month old GSD boy, Perseus. We were told that we had demodex and treated with ivermectin to no avail. The scratching never stopped (he has been scratching since August!) But, finally after another new vet and what seems to be the right answer. We were told that Perseus does not have Demodex nor did he ever, he has a food allergy and a double yeast infection in both ears. The vet gave a steroid shot, ear cleaner/ meds, antibiotic, and new food. She has us on Royal Canin. Call me crazy but, he has never acted so full of life and just genuinely enjoyable. The scratching went from 100% of the time to 10% of the time and he is just doing really well. The ears look great too! I really think that the food is giving him what he needs?! For example it used to be that he would occassionally not even eat his food and now he can't wait to eat! Is any one else on Royal Canin's German Shepherd formula...it's pretty pricey. How has your dog done with that food? Also has anyone ever dealt with yeast infections in the ears and does this mean that we will always deal with that?
