Need Advice on Toys / Balls

1314 Views 12 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  pupresq
Sam (Lab) and Spirit (GSD) have always loved playing with tennis balls and Kongs. Now Eli is up and very mobile I have a problem. Eli eats tennis balls, footballs and anything else he can get into his mouth when I'm not looking. Thankfully thus far everything has passed (we had lovely green and red tennis ball poop last week), but I fear something will get "stuck".

I still have kongs out, but am looking for some more GSD proof toys, preferably ones that I can throw or kick for Sam and Spirit to chase. Any recommendations?

Jolly Balls?
I've never ordered from this site, it just had the best pictures

Would a Cuz be sturdy enough? The Hooligans love theirs.

Oh, yeah - the Jolly Ball suggestion is great. Mac and Slider have the horse size and just love them.
I second the joyy ball sugestion. I also got a ball in the shape of an egg from Leerburg site that Quincy is absolutely ape over. Also a hit was the flying squirl I bought at Petsmart.
Another member had this ball.

Indestructible Ball from Petsmart
Get the red kong ball.

Mine have chewed handles off Jolly ball and the indestructible ball will break your foot --

I've had them all and either the Kong ball or a ball on the string like this

I have had Jolly Balls and indesturtible balls and they don't hold up. My GSD's ripe the handle off the Jolly Ball with in minutes and then eat the rest if I don't watch them, so no more Jolly Balls.
I also have a indestrutible ball and that hurts me and the dogs mouth. They actually yipe when they chase it and run into it instead.
I've had good success with toys from here:

I've only had one toy destroyed from them, and it took over a year to happen. The others are in good shape. Besides their durability, I enjoy the mint smell of their rubber toys. The one complaint I have about them is that the toys seem to go out of stock quickly. I have had to check back on the site until they have the toy I want.
Mine ate the jolly balls, too, and we got the horse version. Took maybe half an hour.

Mine also has planetdog balls.
I have never ordered from them but after looking at their site, I'm very impressed with their ethics.

Does anyone have the ball on a rope? If so, what do you think and is the medium or large better for an average GSD?

Here is what Leerburg says about this type of ball, which they sell at a slightly more expensive price.

They recommend the medium for drive work. I think that is a good size for any use with a GSD.
