My poor Zeus!!!

It seemed to happen all within one day. So fast!! I noticed yesterday afternoon, after I brushed him a lot, that Zeus seemed to have lost a lot of weight. At least that's what it looked like. It looked like his sides where going in where you could see the indent to his ribs. (After going to the vet, he lost 3lbs). Then he was acting weird. Us dog people know when our dogs look sad or in pain. He had that hurt look on his face. He wouldn't jump up on the bed or couch. He was very, more than usual, clingy to me. One ear down or both ears down. Then I checked his stomach to make sure it wasn't bloat. When we felt the sides of this stomach he let out a yelp and walked away. And he always seemed like he wanted to lay down. Very unusal. I would let him out and he would lay down in the grass. Not like him at all. Then he wouldn't eat AT ALL last night. I even put in cooked chop meat in his food and he wouldn't touch it.
My poor baby was sick! How did this happen so quick! He was normal up until yesterday.

This morning first thing I took him to the vet. I heard the words I didn't want to hear!! He has a grapefruit size tumor in his abdomen!! And he's in a lot of pain.

My heart sank and I couldn't help but busting out in tears. (I tried to hold it back because I had to bring the four kids with me). The dr. said they can try and take it out. But if that doesn't work, there's only one other option to end his suffering. I can't even type it. ....

I told him to do what they could to help him. They are preping him for surgery as I type this. $2,200 later - I left my Zeus in the hands of the doctor that I hope will treat him like he's his own. I can't imagine having to put him down. I don't have money to pay for this but...I think most of us are the same - we will beg, borrow and steal if it gives our babies a fighting chance. I can't lose him. I won't! I won't let him suffer. I'm not a selfish person, but if I can get him better...I'll do whatever it takes to have him back, as healthy and painfree as possible.

Please keep your fingers, paws and eyeballs crossed that everything turns out OK. I adopted him 8 years ago this month. They said he was a year old when I adopted him from the shelter. I however think he was older, his teeth weren't that good and he just appeared to be older. So I'm not sure exactly how old he his. But he should be in the range of 9 to 11 or 12. I'm thinking the later - maybe even a little bit older. But as long as he can live a painfree life and be healthy - I'm going to do my best to make that happen.

Pray for us please!!!!

Hang in there. Zeus here's to you. We're praying for a successful surgery and swift recovery.

That is horrible
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your Family
poor Zeus!
I would have bald too. I read on another thread someone told another to go to Care credit or Credit care to help pay of the surgery wish I was paying more attention. I'd pay what I had to for mine so totally agree.
hugs
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Zeus. Please keep us posted.
Thanks all! We need all the prayers we can get. Thanks Mary Ann - you've given me some hope!!!!!!!!

I just applied to Care Credit, I was thankfully approved for most of the cost. I tried to get an increase but they wouldn't give me any more. I tried to do a Care Credit in hubby's name but he wasn't approved. I thought I could do the rest with his account if he was accepted but he wasn't. I'll figure something out - I always do.

I felt so bad leaving him in the hospital. The kids and I gave him a hug and kiss and told him we loved him as we walked out. That was so hard. I hope this surgery "fixes" the problem. I hate to see him in pain.

Linda,
Prayers here also. I hope Zeus makes it through ok. Dogs are too good at hiding their illness.
Sending good throughts your way!
