Ive often mentioned my old GSD Mikey in various threads. While cleaning
out the laptop for a new OS install (Ubuntu linux) I ran across some
of the last pictures I took of him. These were taken in the fall of 2009.
He was gone the next May. Victim of cancer. Interestingly Abby was born
the day after Mikey died.

Seeing these pictures still chokes me up. I cant believe how old and
gray he looks. I just never really noticed it so much when he was alive.

I miss you my friend...

Awww...what a sweet face. He must have picked Abby out to send to you- and judging from your first few months together he was getting back at you for something that bugged him!! I have a picture of my last gsd in the kitchen and one on my desk so I see them all the time, but when I really look at them it still chokes me up too. Only the best ones can do that

Yea...and in his prime quite the ladies man. For a long time he
was the only male dog in the neighborhood. Everybody had females.
So he was in great demand from all the local girls.

He used to drive a Border Collie named Misty crazy. He would
stand in front of her house until she noticed him and started barking
and jumping around. Then walk away. Otherwise he ignored her.

His best dog friend was an Australian Cattle dog named Penny.
They chased squirrels together and spent a great deal of time
checking out where the other just peed.

And whenever we encountered a mixed group of people he always
went straight for the girls. Every time.

What's that saying?...dogs take after their owners...
Well...let me tell you...having a cute dog is a sure fire way to meet
girls. Only problem is most of the girls Ive met since getting Abby
have been from 5 to 10 years old...

LOL. That is so true. If I added their ages, or in many cases multiplied them, I might get close to someone even old enough to drink!!! Heidi (my GSD) absolutely loves children. Since I don't have any she has to get her fill with the neighborhood kids.

What a beautiful boy, you can still see the strength in the way he's holding himself and in his face. You must miss him desperately

I try not to think about it. Thats why those last pictures I took of him
were still unprocessed on the laptop.

These pictures were taken along a nearby lake. The last couple
of years Mikey and I spent a lot of time at that lake. It was a short
walk and we spent the time mostly sitting on the bank and watching
the boats and wildlife go by. It was easy on his old bones. He was
13 years old in these pictures.

Now I have Abby and even though she can never replace my old
friend she is succeeding in carving out her own spot in my heart.
