I have never used a muzzle before so I have no idea what to get.

I have a friend living with me, J is not as aggressive to him anymore, but he would certainly bite if he got the opportunity.

Instead of keeping J crated, chained, and tied to me 24/7 I was just going to let him wear a muzzle and be loose.. that way he can just move away from the friend if he wants to instead of reacting.

I was thinking a plastic basket muzzle so he can drink/pant etc. since it's going to be on quite a bit.

It really doesn't need to be heavy-duty.

Is the friend only going to be around J with your supervision? I think that muzzle should be ok if properly fitted and tightened.

Here is some good information on muzzles: Leerburg | How to Select a Muzzle for your Doghttp://leerburg.com/muzzle.htm
Oh of course..

Thank you guys. I didn't want to buy something that isn't going to work how I wanted.

It doesn't need to be a very strong muzzle.. if given the choice J will avoid contact and make a bunch of noise, not really go in for a bite unless he's pushed...
