Free 11 year-old (full-blooded) German Shepherd to good home!

I've had "Polo" since she was 6-weeks old and unfortunately, My family can no longer provide her with the care and attention she needs and deserves. She is kennel bound for 8-12 hours per day due to our busy lifestyle and schedule...Poor thing!...She deserves much better.

Polo is kennel trained, house trained and knows several commands (sit, lay down, speak, etc)...She has been an "inside dog" her entire life and I'll only consider adoptive families who intend to keep her inside full-time. I will provide a large kennel, stainless steel food bowl and an extra large stainless steel water bowl.

Note: Polo will need some fairly immediate attention from the vet for allergies and ear issues (wax-buildup) that are common among shepherds.

i think they're getting rid of her because of vet needs. not time issues. if she really is 11 years old, she's old enough she doesnt really care about how long they're home or not. She's probably happy for the time to sleep. some people... i hope for the dogs sake, she finds a good home to spend her days.

I'm tempted. But my husband would kill me. Rocky'll be nine in a few months and I really don't need the expense of two seniors.

When Chama and Basu were still alive I had three seniors (including Cleo, who is going strong at 18!) and I used to joke that I was running a retirement home for animals. It was expensive but I would do it again in a second. As much as I love puppies it's the seniors who really need us. Some day I'd love to have a rescue just for seniors. :wub:

That makes me soooo angry. Getting rid of an old loyal friend like that. Shame on them...karma will find them some day. I hope that girl finds a nice person who loves the breed and can properly appreciate her.

this is such BS. you had the dog for 11 yrs., now you can't keep the time.
they don't want the dog because it's getting old and needs more

I see this all the time in NC. It is so sad!! Someone has a dog for years and right at the end of there journey in life they get rid of them or take them to the shelter. It is so sad! I seen not even a month ago someone had brought down a full blooded 9 year old GSD with HD to a high kill shelter. It was so sad! I felt so bad for her and kept thinking what that poor baby was going through or thinking. I am on Craigslist all the time just being nosey observing what people are rehoming or fighting about that day.... and I have seen so many dogs that are 9,10,11,12 years old being rehomed. I just can't wrap my mind around why someone could love a dog for so many years and then turn around and get rid of them for no real reason. Whats a few more years of the same love you have given them??!! Guess people think that they don't have feelings or stress like we do! =(

Two 11 year old dogs were recently offered to the Malinois Rescue for new homes. The owners where moving out of state to assisted living. Mal Rescue had found 2 foster homes only to find out the owners had the dogs euthanized. It was the vet's idea. They brought both dogs to the vet to update vaccines and the vet said it would be cruel to rehome the dogs and more humane to euthanize them. This was yesterday.

Ohh noooo the dog has to be crated for 8-12 hours a day, just like pretty much every dog with an owner that works full time.

Sounds like they don't want to pay for a senior with senior issues anymore. I can't imagine having a dog for that long and then getting rid of it because I didn't have time for it. You MAKE time. It's FAMILY. They'd have an easier time rehoming if they had the vet issues resolved first, but it seems like they don't want to shell out the cash.

I look at CL and get upset too! That poor senior.
There is a miller that keeps posting single pups, all different small breeds(and mixes) from Elkhart, IN. Some are on to it, but I'm sure they move lots of pups placing ads everywhere.
Here is one that has been listed yesterday and today. A young dog this time, hope he ends up NOT as a breeder.

he is very well mannerd and listens very well he loves to play fetch and loves attion he also loves to go bye bye he knows his basic comands when outside he dose not need a leash he stays right by his master he is not fixed but dose have his shots he loves cats and kids his rehoming fee is 80$ he comes with a leash and a coller plus 2 toys you will love him he is a great dog email if interested

I was browsing Kijiji (more popular here than CL) and found a 4 year old female GSD "free to a good home" because because their other female was picking on her...she listed the breeder's name (local WL breeder) so that people could look up the website. So I emailed the breeder and told her that one of her puppies was listed! I don't know what will happen but I did get a "thank you very much!" email back.

How could someone become involved in a rescue group and not put up a fight for the dogs they were entrusted to foster. I need to stop typing before
