So, first of all I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong section. I know GSDs need alot of mental stimulation. I would like to get Kane into a Schutzhund club but am unable to right now. So my question is, does any one have any ideas on how to provide him the mental stimulation he needs at home?

FireGuy, you can do some trick training with with him like, give paw, roll over, pick up his toys and put them in a basket. There are a wide variety of tricks you can teach him. If you have a kong you can fill it with peanut butter, can cheese and /or treats and either freeze it or just give it to him and that will work his mind while he tries to get all the goodies out of it. You can play hide and seek by either hiding his toys or by you hiding from him. There are some toys that stimulate the mind like that IQ Cube, squirrel tree with the little squirrels and others that the dog has to use his mind to get the stuffed animals out. Hope that helps.

Thanks gsdmom, that does help. I've never heard of the toys you mentioned (IQ cube, squirrel tree) but I'll look them up. Thanks again for the suggestions.

I personally feel many of us UNDER-value the training and bonding that happens when we work with our dogs to teach them tricks. It's amazing what our dogs can do with us, when we take the time to learn and then teach.
