I know in my area, some humane societies get crates as donations from people and then they sell them, if they cannot use them for what ever reason. I just bought an extra-large airline crate and a smaller one for $25 and $20 each. so VERY cheap!

Have you tried Craigslist.com?? You can sometimes find free or cheap stuff on there.
