We are looking to get a German Shepherd puppy, we live in Missouri and know that there are probably some very good breeders in Missouri, but we want to make sure we get the right one. We would like a Male Sable coloring German Shepherd. Any suggestions on who would be a good breeder in Missouri for us to check out?

Sincerely,
Kandis

What are you looking to do with the dog? Any sports (agility, IPO, etc)? What is your lifestyle- are you looking for a higher energy or lower energy dog? What are you looking for in terms of temperament?

Were are you at in MO?
Have a list of questions you would like to ask the breeder about their dogs to insure you have a good understanding of what you are looking for.

Cheers

Find the breeders nearer to your location. A male Sable coloring German Shepherds are easily available but you have to check about its characteristics and should be well-trained.

you're going to have so much fun with your dog. having a dog with
the qualities you want is going to be easily done. go luck with your
new pup. GSD's don't do tricks. they obey commands. tricks are for
those other dogs. ;)

Kandis, depending on what you are looking for, there are quite a few breeders around the Kansas City area that myself and Malinda Weber know and can recommend as well as ourselves. Be careful with purchasing in Missouri. It is often joked that it is the puppy mill capital of the world. I highly recommend you don't buy a dog sight unseen. Meet the parents, see where they are kept, how they are handled. Ask the breeder what they do with their dogs to temperament test. Ask what health tests they do. Ask for proof! OFA has a database that you can look up the dogs health testing. If through a private testing they will send certifications from the facility, ask for copies of those. Ask for references, both previous puppy buyers, or people who train at the schutzhund club with them. Everyone has different desires for their dog within the GSD standard. So figure out what you want, and don't settle for less.

Irresponsible breeders and puppy mills are in business for a reason. Puppies are cute, and they are charismatic salesmen. Don't let the pitch sell you, let the dogs prove they are worth it by meeting them and observing the characteristics. Be honest with yourself about what you want to and can handle.

Best of luck!
