Ok so a two part question. I'll start by saying that I have never had a GS that is going to be as hairy as Mace.
What is going to be the best for brushing and combing out his hair? I plan on taking him every two months to the groomers to get him blown out. I also don't like slickers. They hurt me so I don't think they would feel good to a dog either.

Next is collars/harness.
DH wants a rolled leather collar/padded leather for KC. Where can we find one and for a good price? She is a short hair so we don't have to worry about hair getting caught in anything.
Now for Mace... I prefer harnesses but that is a lot of hair to be under one. What would be optimal for a collar or harness?
We have two rubber prong collars coming in the mail but don't want to use them all the time for walks and such.

Thanks.

I use a rake it has two rows of teeth and pulls out dead hair, i also do have a slicker brush and i have a soft brush that just gets the top coat. once a month i also use a furminator on my GSD and Saint Bernard, it's about $50 at Petsmart or Petco but worth it. I don't even have to take them to the grooming place and I know the groomers at Petsmart that's what they use when people bring in dogs for deshedding. It takes a good hour or so to get all of it but it works great.

I dont use a harness much because I think it encourages the dog to pull. I do have martingale collars attached to all of my dog leashes. I love them for walking because they cant break or back out of it and it gives a bit more control when holding it up high on the neck. You can buy cheap ones at Petsmart or several places online.
