The 30 foot (or even longer) is an excellent training tool for a puppy and adult dogs. You can safely teach them reliable recalls and as they get older you can safely work on other commands such as sit/down when you are not in their immediate vacinity. The leash basically acts a a safety net so the pup cannot run off.

We used the long lead when working on recall with Patton. It's also nice to have so they can play if you are visiting somewhere and don't have a reliable recall yet.

My 17 week pup gets all caught up/ wrapped around in it. I think she has to learn to not turn circles in it. We stick with the shorter leash for now.
