Hey guys. I mentioned in the Corona thread, I took a pretty bad fall (a la Lil, 'lil bugger - lol) on Apr. 1st.
I fractured an upper rib and broke my wrist in 3 places.
Today I have to go to a much larger hospital in a large city to have my wrist re-xrayed and re-casted now that swelling going down.
I have to do this alone. It is terribly upsetting.
An acquaintance, who delivers the local paper wrote her phone number on the paper and insisted she would take me. But she is up there in age.
As of 2 days ago, anyone out together who are not from the same household must be 6.5 ft apart, or subject to fines.

I was on the fence already about taking her up on the offer, but I am going to a hospital and that in itself is a huge risk to her...but a thousand dollar fine, I cannot absorb that myself, let alone a retired person costs for her help.

Anyhow, trying to stay strong.
Wish me luck with surgeon assessment!
IDK if I'm more scared of future of my wrist or of Covid lol - mind you, last thing you want is a severe cough with a broken rib (ugh, what a time for this to happen)

I feel terrible for you, having to deal with this right now. That was so nice of her to offer to help, but it’s risky for both of you. I’d be in the same situation as you if something happened! I have a 30 year old with asthma and a 7 mo old baby here. There’s no way they could take me to a hospital. Hang in there, and let us know what the surgeon says. Really hoping for good news for you.

Wear some kind of face covering in the hospital, don’t touch your face, and wash your hands as often as you can while you’re there.
Best of luck!

Yeah sometimes our own dogs make us up their training when they don’t listen and accidents happens. When my moms dog was a huge big goon rushed past her once to get outside breaking her calf bone. Sorry your local hospital has no specialist. Sounds very inconvenient. It was nice the woman offered but I would not risk her health by having her go into the hospital at her age she really needs to be safe and stay home. I hope the hospital now has masks again for patients or anyone who visit the hospital. I would call ahead and ask find out or bring or make your own. Remember you are never alone even though you may feel this god is always with you. Hope you don’t need any surgery.

At times like this I wish there would be some way I could help! Please take every precaution!

I don't know what it's like there, but here hospitals are not allowing adult patients to be accompanied anyway. Whether that's the case there or not your friend could just wait in her car right?

Best wishes!

She could or would have had to wait. It is more the risk of contaminating her vehicle. And being 2 people in car, if we don't belong to same address, you can be fined. There no gatherings or groups allowed over 5 people in same house, so no visiting family or friends. Out for walk and not within same household 6 ft apart. All stores that are open have discs or tape or spray paint 6 ft apart where you can stand in line, both inside and outside. All cashiers in grocery stores or costco have glass partitions installed now...pet food stores are closed for in shopping...you have to call in order and they bring outside for you or deliver if they offer. All restaurants are closed except for delivery or drive through. New construction or any home reno is now deemed non-essential, so now closed.

Pot stores closed! That initially made the essentials list, but got axed a few days ago (can still order online). Hardware stores - closed. Retail clothing etc. closed. Dollar store still open - weird...

Very sorry to hear that. It's very nice of your acquaintance to do that, though it's risky for the both of you these days! I wish you well and hope you will get through this asap

Yes a good point it is just as risky for you it’s why the social distancing is important many people may have it any many don’t even know if they carry it. Close down the house it’s what people need to be doing. I hope things went well. Nothing about any of this is easy. The slower this spreads the quicker life can resume. This to shall pass.

Thanks for the well wishes you guys!
The f/u went well, I think.
I was taken for xray. Then surgeon came in and told me due to Corona, they have changed the usual protocols, that being what the emerg doc told me...xrays, new cast (this 1 week after the emerg visit), then 2 weeks again, xrays new cast and again in 2 weeks. Depending on healing, will determine if need surgery...
So doc says to reduce the number of visits and chances of exposure to Covid, he would like to just go straight to surgery, put in the plates and pins so as not to have to do the other routine...
I said, OR, we can see how it heals??
He said he would go get second check and came back and said...so we will recast it today, and come back in 4 weeks for xrays and we will see if you need another cast or if you can go to a removable splint...but he doesn't think I will need surgery after all
PHEW!!

How hard that had to have been for you. It was very nice of your friend to offer to drive you. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if she just drove you and waited in the car her risk would be low if you both have otherwise been social distancing/quarantining. As far as the fine for being with someone outside your home. If asked by authorities I would hope they would understand that you may not be able to drive safely with a broken rib and broken wrist and needing medical care would out weigh the rules of a fine. One would hope anyway.

Hope your appointment went well and you don't need surgery.

I don't understand why the lady who did the cast didn't offer me a choice in colours :(
I saw guy leaving who had come in just after me and he had bright pink cast...mine is just cream.
I didn't know there was choices. She didn't offer
Seems you can have pink, green, orange, yellow etc
I would have liked orange

Thanks for the update! Been there, done that last year, with my elbow. If your arm gets itchy under the cast, put your hair dryer on the coldest setting to blow cold air down the cast. It helps, and doesn't do any damage to your skin.

The pink cast was probably a (more expensive) waterproof one. When my son was younger, way back then, I had to specially order one so he could swim when away on a school camp. You could customize your cream cast with felt pens. Go crazy on the art work, and be sure to show us. Could you check if the hospital had a patient transport system you may be able to use?

Orange would be great as long as it's not the color of Lil's favorite toy:) I'm glad you don't need surgery!
That's funny ...and thank you :)
