Anyone else on here faced challenges finding a rental home that would allow you to have your GSD? If so, what did you do? Thanks.

I haven't had any problems, but that's probably because no one around here has had problems out of GSDs and the GSD isn't a very common breed in these parts.
I found some rentals that allow dogs without any restrictions and as soon as May comes and I finish up at the junior college, I'm going to lease one.
I have two options: Pay $250-$350 a month including bills but be in a bad area or pay $650-$750 a month including bills but be in a good area.
If I end up having to get a loan my first year at the university, I think I'll just go the more expensive route.

I have read here that some make up a resume' for your dog, including any classes you have completed, and titles and also include a picture. Does you dog have it's CGC?
I put some training videos together and sent them with the initial email. Ever since then I haven't had any problems finding landlords that allowe three even four GSD's.
If you can, write up a resume of the stuff you have done with your GSD. Places you've training, put videos together of your dog doing exercises and listening to the commands.
It does make things a lot easier.

From my experiecne with 2 large dogs including a GSD, I have found that it is easiest to find a rental home by owner. I posted an ad on Craigslist describing me and my dogs as well as what we were looking for. Our landlord requested that we bring the dogs when looking at the house, and they were so friendly and well-behaved he allowed us all to move in without even a pet deposit. I've heard it can be very difficult to go through realtors/apartment complexes since they're less likely to "bend the rules."

First and foremost, give yourself plenty of time to look. It took me no less than a month to find various places to rent (and I moved 6 times all the while owning a gsd). As it has been said before, a resume goes a long way. The more documented training you can provide to a potential landlord, the better.
It is more difficult to find a large complex type rental than a private one. Be prepared to pay more. In fact, if you offer extra security deposit, that will show you are serious. Some places will ask for a pet deposit, but if you offer to put more down, then it might give you that little edge. If you are looking to rent from a private landlord, offering to have them meet your extremely well behaved gsd can go a long way as well.
