Please help!!!!
Ok so in November I had gotten word of a female “husky” they said that had been living in a friend vehicle for now 2 day, with food and water but they had not let her out. She was too much for anyone to handle… fast forward now ( mind you I told them in a heart beat I’d take her, sight unseen ) so now currently my family and I have been battling to come up with the correct breed that she is. Now she yes kind of look like a “husky” from afar; but that’s where that stops. For 1 ) she doesn’t bark, maybe if I’m raking leaves and messing with her or something really scares her outside. Then yes a little wood wood but that’s it. She’s literally the quietest dog I’ve ever owned and I’ve had a hand full over 35 years now…. Ok husky are not quiet by any means. Now 2 ) her double coat is NOT one traditional to husky’s it’s very corse on her shoulders and rather short on her hindquarters, 3 ) her tail on the other hand is a fluffy arched beauty that some time hangs low behind her, 4)lastly her big ol beautiful ears are very similar to GS ears.
Please anyone safe me from this, tell me someone knows more of what she looks like….. thanks,
Proud momma of such a beautiful princess

She looks to me like a purebred white German shepherd. Definitely high content GSD if she's a mix. The only way to be sure is a DNA test.

The white is a masking gene, and sometimes the other colours show in the dog's fur, too, so she may not be absolutely pure white. I notice she seems to have some brown shading on her shoulders and back. The colour is not recognized by breeders, so the white shepherd folk have their own club and registry. In Europe, they are known as White Swiss Shepherds (Berger Blanc Suisse), but they are really part of the same breed.

If you're planning on keeping here, and she's your first GSD, suggest you hang out here to learn more about them! She obviously hasn't had much training, and you may need help. They are not the easiest dog to live with!

Best of luck with her! She's beautiful!

Pretty Girl! I don't see any Husky, usually the blue eyes show up a bit. She looks German Shepherd to me. Yes, I DNA test is the only way to know. (We use Embark and are happy with the results). Don't worry about the lack of barking. I've found sometimes new dogs tend to be on their best behavior and don't seem to need to bark right away. She looks like a real sweetie - what did you name her? Have you seen a vet yet? They can give you a better idea of her age from looking at her teeth. WELCOME to the forum!

As said, DNA is the only way to know. It is hard to tell from the pics, is the floofyness of the tail mainly on the bottom, is there longer floofy hair on back legs towards the top?

Looks like GSD to me. But don't white GSD's often have a pink nose?

White Swiss Shepherds have a black nose, black eyelids and black lips. How does she look standing from the side? The Swiss Shepherds do not have the sloping down back of the GSD, they look more rectangular in profile. If so, I would say it's a White Swiss Shepherd.

If her back is sloping down, it's a white GSD. Or maybe a mix between white GSD and WSS. You see, these two breeds have actually the exact same origin, there is nothing but GSD genes in a WSS. It is just, their breeding did split some 100 years ago. The GSD's were bred to become dark color service dogs, the WSS were bred to become white color - but its just the result of selective breeding, there is no crossing with other dog breeds involved at all.

Another hint could be, WSS are less aggressive than GSD. However, my WSS is quite vocal, lots of barking and varied other noises. At the end of the day, if you want to be sure there is probably only a gene test that can tell.

Huskies have a short, straight back, ears are smaller, tails curl over the back. They have thicker, more abundant fur on the back of the hind legs. Their coats are thicker but often shorter than the GSD, IIRC.

GSD tail hangs straight down with a slight curve to one side or the other. When they are excited, it will be raised but should not come above the level of the back. If it does, it's a fault, but one that's quite common.

These are the things that make me think pure GSD.

I’m perplexed by some of the replies and am desperately trying to see what you guys see. I’d say high husky content (50%), low GSD content if any….. and certainly other breeds. Post height, weight, outdoor photos (lighting), full body shot (standing, from the side, as level as possible).

Looks like a Husky Mix. Only way to know anything is to do a breed DNA through Embark.

I too get Husky. Having a Husky mix myself (with zero GSD) I am of course biased, but strong Husky vibes. I wouldn't have said much if any GSD.

I don't know, but she is beautiful and looks very sweet. Thank you for giving her a loving home. If you do an Embark test, please let us know.

She looks like a GSD x Husky with maybe something else in there too. I would do Embark DNA if you want to have a better idea. Google photo of a husky GSD cross. I agree with Fodder and really don't see how she could be 100% gsd. And huskies do have brown eyes quite a bit. The gold pattern markings on the white are really what's throwing me towards a husky shep and probably a third breed.
