I have a male (16mths) and a female (9mths), both intact. We haven't decided if we are going to eventually breed them after getting IPO titles. Our female is just finishing her 1st heat. They had been VERY close prior to her cycle starting, playing well thought their puppyhood, getting along with no issues whatsoever. We separated them when her heat started.
My question is: what behavioral changes should we expect once her heat cycle is over and we put them back together? Has anyone had any issues with intact males and females living together when the female isn't in heat and they had previously been good playmates?

I have, and I don't think you should expect any change afterward. Some females change a bit in attitude toward other dogs after the second heat, near 2 yrs of age. But most I've been around didn't act any differently at all.

Mine have all gone back to business as usual. No change.
