my guy has gotten bitten in several areas on his belly. he keeps biting on them and is making his tummy very irritated. i used peroxide on the bites (whatever kind of a insect, it had a field day on my guy. he must have about 8 - 10 bites) and a cortisone spray to relieve the itch. is there anything else you can recommend that i can do for him? thanks for your answers.

why wouldn't you use peroxide, is it harmful to dogs??
Peroxide in and of itself isn't that great of a healthcare product. When you place it on a cut, it bubbles because it's basically burning away the dead tissue. It also, however, removes the new good tissue that's trying to form to heal the cut. Rule of thumb is that if you can't out it in your eye, you shouldn't put it on a cut (no, peroxide cannot be put in your eye...lol). Same goes for rubbing alcohol. I've never heard of peroxide being of any help to bites, I would think that with the bubbling it would make them itch more? :)

Bug Bites

Try swabbing with Witch Hazel. It works amazing and takes all the itch out of the bite. We have used it on ourselves and animals when out in the deep bush and belief me the bugs out there can be pretty awful!

I know you mentioned you're not sure what insect bit your dog, which makes it a little tough, but when my dog had a bout with fleas I did a bunch of research online for some natural was to make the bites better, and so she would stop chewing at them. This site was good for some info on if it's a possible infection (http://www.canine-infection-information.com)

Hope this helps!
