So, I was shopping at my holistic pet store here in Portland today, and was talking to the owner. I was actually shocked to see that he was still carrying Innova products, to include my dogs' favorite kibble: EVO. All of the other pet stores I utilize discontinued carrying Innova and EVO due to the Proctor & Gamble buyout. Going back to my animal rights days, I remember boycotting any products manufactured and/or distributed by P&G because they tested on animals more than just about any other corporation. When P&G recently bought out EVO/Innova, I stopped buying their products.

Anyways, I asked the owner why he still carried Innova/P&G after all other stores no longer sell it. He basically broke it down for me, saying that P&G no longer tests on animals ever since 2002, and they are at the forefront of a new anti-animal-testing movement in the government. He had all of the details, and has met with the head of the pet products department at P&G. He said P&G is now 99.5% animal testing free. I don't want to waste all night breaking it down for you the way he broke it down for me, but what he said sounded right and made sense. I used to work for Nike and went through all sorts of similar training about sweat shops and child labor laws, and after Nike was busted for supporting sweat shops/child labor, and lost tons of business/money, they started helping to change the laws in favor of supporting bans against sweat shops, etc.

So, my question is: how many of you have also heard what the owner was telling me, and how many of you still buy Innova/EVO products despite P&G's terrible reputation back in the 1990's? Have they really changed? The EVO Red Meat Large Bites is my dogs' #1 favorite kibble, and if I can get some answers and proof, I would be willing to go back to buying it again. My pups would love me 10 times more if I did! Haha.

Please help. I'm about to get on google and do some research. I searched this board and didn't see anything about it. If I find anything, I'll post it here.

I personally haven't heard a thing about them no longer animal testing or lobbying against it and I wouldn't believe it without proof given their history. If I still fed kibble I would quit buying Evo. I've heard of people who regularly feed Evo having problems with evo since the buyout, but whether that's because of P&G or other issues is debatable I suppose.

Here's where he got his info: PG.com Animal Welfare & Alternatives: health care, cats and dogs

P&G is absolutely huge and undoubtedly runs many thousand experiments on their products so that 1% could certainly be a lot of animal testing.

One thing is for sure though: P&G really cares what their stockholders and the general public think so if you feel strongly about this issue you should write to them and let them know why you're no longer buying the food.

Our locally owned pet shop stopped carrying it mainly because fear of ingredient change. My understanding is they do not have to release changes to the ingredients until 6 months after it is done. I guess this happened with another dog food that was bought out by a large corp and they promised and swore they would not/did not change the ingredients. Well after many dogs got sick it finally came out that they did change it. Can't remember who but I am sure someone here knows.

I would not trust any large corp to tell the truth.

I didn't know they didn't have to release changes until 6 months. That might explain the problems I've been hearing from EVO feeders since the P&G buyout... :( Honestly I wouldn't trust them no matter what they say for continuing to create terrible quality products in the first place.
