Man, I typed out a whole post but i somehow lost track of it and now I don't know where it is. (hate when that happens) sorry if it turns up somewhere random!!

Anyway,
We are looking to switch from Canidae because Riley has had itchy skin on it and doesn't eat it well (doesn't have anything to do with the formula change). We supplemented with fish oil and/ or peanut oil and it helped, but she still itches and still doesn't seem to like it that much (i crumble a liver treat in there and it gets her to eat it). PS she poops like a horse on it too! anyone else have this???

I wanted to try Innova, so I sent my fiance out for it. Our local store didn't carry it so he came back with Natural Balance. He bought the sweet potato and vension formula because he likes sweet potatoes

Anyway, once I explained that you don't want to start with exotic proteins with a dog who doesn't necessarily have an allergy, we are going to return the bag and try something else.

Here are the questions:
1. Should i keep looking for innova (adult formula) or just switch for another NB? (which one?) What are the advantages over another?

2. I know everyone always says "go slow" but what does that mean? How much (ish) should i put in the first "try"? (1/4 cup?) I usually feed her 1 1/2 - 2 cups twice a day.

i like the innova evo and im in the proccess of switching from that to orijen LBP just because even tho it has how to feed the evo to pups i dont feel that comfortable with it but it was the only thing he would eat as far as kibble goes.

if your feeding 1 1/2 cups a day i would give her 1 cup old and 1/4 to 1/2 new to start out. increase it every couple of days depending on how picky he is, also if he is picky excercise him real well before so he can build up an appetite. Thats what i have to do to mine because he is so picks but he is really loving the orijen and this is only his second meal on it.

why don't you feel comfortable feeding it to pups? (my pup is 5 months old)

personally, i would have absolutely zero comfort level feeding innova evo to a 5 month old gsd. the calcium is sky high on that stuff, and we know that could cause problems in a growing large breed pup. at 5 months, there is alot of growing left to do. ive found many people who have emailed natura regarding this issue, and natura explicitly warns against evo for large breed pups. why they dont put this on their website, i dont know? (at least last time i looked, i didnt see any cautions about it)

i may be wrong, but i think you will find a consensus on this site that evo is completely inappropriate for our pups while they are still growing.

i agree orijen large breed puppy is the only grainless kibble that i would like for a large breed pup, though i think natural balance has something. if i recall, the NB was a fairly low protein kibble.

yea NB u can feed to pups too. but see you said the protein level. why does everyone who feeds kibble think that too much protein is bad when you got pups who eat RAW and prolly have way more protein during meals then kibble dogs? am i missing something?
