In looking at this disease, it reinforces that we need to be aware of our pets behavior as it relates to their health. What is normal for our dogs and what might be just a small indication of trouble. That is one reason I like to comb and trim nails weekly. I take that time to check them over carefully.

Just like my battle with ticks ther is no escape here on LI I try to do the best I can for my dogs and that's all I can do.

I have heard of this, someone in my area lost her lab to this a few years ago. I cringe around standing/muddy water. You just never know that's in there.

The county I live in has the second highest incidence of this disease in IL, the first is cook county, which I am in all the time too. Definitely scary
