Just a silly question I've been asking myself. I know the Belgian Malinois is nicknamed a Mal for short, but do Alaskan Malamute owners call their breed a Mal as well? Curious! Help if you know!
I have also heard Malamute owners call the dogs "Mals". If I asked someone what breed of dog they owned, and they said a Mal, my next question would be Alaskan or Belgian.
I've also hear people call their Malinois Mali, and yes Malamutes are Mals too. It's kinda like how Aussie could be Australian Shepherds or Cattle Dogs.
Usually I refer to Alaskan Malamutes as a Malamutes. Of course, mine is a mix of an Alaskan Malamute and a Golden Retriever. I usually tell people she is a Golden Malamute.
