A friend of mine just rescued a 18month old female. Overall her behavior is excellent. She already new basic commands and listens really well. The only place she is having trouble is in the car. At first it seemed like excitment and she would try to get in the front seat. She bought a harness to strap her in and now she just howls like crazy. Any ideas on how to deal with this would be great. Maybe a training collar?

I kennel mine. That might be an option just until she is more comfortable? I know people that have been able to put a folded kennel in, pop it open and use it in a car. I take mine EVERYWHERE when they are puppies so they get used to travelling etc. It takes a little time sometimes so just be patient. Also, try giving a really high value treat (bully stick or something of the sort) to distract her so she's not so distressed might work...
