There are a lot of dogs with absolutely no ball drive and there is nothing you can do to change that.

For some dogs you just have to show them how fun the ball is before they get it and you can do that by putting it on the end of a leash, set it on the ground, and then move it quickly around with you sounding excited. It may take a while, but the dogs that have some ball drive will catch on.
Be careful what you wish for! My Miikka has high ball drives - I think to the point of obsession. We cannot go outside without having her hunt down one of her balls and then bringing it to us. If we don’t play along, she stands there and repeatedly drops the ball at our feet until we throw the dang thing. I’m pretty sure she’s obsessed.

I agree with what Elaine said.
I wish Miikka would teach Regen about ball drive. She is more interested in chasing other dogs chasing the ball than just fetching the ball...she'll bring it back once or twice and then wander away.
I'm working on Regen. She'll run to the ball (along with Miikka) but Miikka always gets there first. What I need to do is leave Miikka in the house - at least until Regen learns what the ball is all about.
She is so cute at the dog park, but she embarrasses me because I'll be trying to play fetch with her and she'll blow me off, but then someone will come with their lab or retriever and start throwing balls for their dog, and Regen will chase their dog! She is such a goofball.

:D Yea, she chases Mikka too, but I do think she is starting to get the hang of it. What I need to start doing is throwing two balls. One for each dog...then we'll see which way Regen goes - after Miikka or after the ball

My Abby has high fetch drive, a ball, a stick, you name it she will fetch it. When she's in the mood she will find something for me to throw. Often chooses a toy she hasn't been interested in for a while and there she is pushing it into my hand. Sometimes she's not in the mood and that's ok with me too ;-) After all, it's all about HER.

Accept him as he is. My previous dog had no ball drive but she had other virtues.
