I got Onyx chipped a year ago, and just received a letter to renew my annual membership. This is for the advanced service, right? If I don't pay $14.99 I will still be in the database, but not get all the added services. Or do I have to pay yearly to have my dog registered?

Yes I paid originally and am in the database, but they sent me a renewal letter. I am assuming this is for their advanced "services". I will call them to be sure.

We just got our dog and cat chipped about 4 months ago and all this was in the brochure. I was under the impression that you had to pay an annual fee regardless to keep them active in the database.

Then after checking out their website I thought maybe it was for a "premium" service.

Now I don't now.

I just called them and this is for the advanced services. For the initial fee, the pet will stay in the database for life, but only for ID purposes. If you want the alerts, etc. if your pet is lost then you have to pay the annual fee.

When I microchipped my cat a year ago with a HomeAgain chip I discovered that HomeAgain was bought by another company, thus the reason for the change in costs. The original company only had an initial fee and you were good for the life of the pet. The new company has added features to their services and therefore they charge an annual fee.

This is why my Vet's office has stopped using HomeAgain and uses an PetResQ chips. This company charges you nothing for registering, you only pay the price of the chip and for implanting to your vet. They also have a website where you can look up your information. No fees after that! I have this type for my dog.
