My husband and I adopted a young GSD early in June from the Fort Worth German Shepherd Rescue group and named it Soldier. He is less than a year old, by anyone's guess. He was underweight, skin hanging from his spine (at 50 lbs), so we focused on nourishing him good puppy growth food, reducing the digestive upset (diarrhea), getting him over his anxiety (acting shy and submissive) and generally getting him to know our home and us and our routine.

He has now learned to walk on the leash, gets two 20-minute walks on our street every day, learned to fetch balls, and is enjoying his new wading pool. He has gained enough weight (now 55 lbs) and we are starting heartworm treatment. He is beginning to show his true temperament and pushing the envelope, getting a bit rambunctious and pushy, so we are learning how to teach him proper obedience and puppy manners.

We look forward to checking this forum (thank you for doing this) for future advice on properly training and caring for this lovely dog.
