Have friends - older couple - who are looking for the perfect breed.

They have and have trained GSDs, but are looking for a pup that needs less time and exercise.

They have a very large yard but live where they feel they need a 'guardian' type breed or at least a dog that others might fear.

they have lots of time and experience, just not a lot of energy.

any thoughts?

How about a FGD like a Great Pyrenese?

Or they could rescue an older adult GSD.

Some Mastiff breeds have generally low energy, and they're quite intimidating!

Definately an older GSD. They are the best. They do not have as much energy but are still guardians. My favorite dog was Rocky, my adopted at 8 year old GSD. He had just enough energy to play with my son, but was also able to hang out. They usually live until 12, 13. I will always adopt older GSD.

Thanks.

Could a guardian breed work as a family dog?

Ya think?
