Hi folks,
I am so lucky to have run into Sam, a 3 month old female GSD. She came to us on Tuesday morning. We have been feeding her plain Purina Puppy Chow (I know...) and water, taking her on walks (not anymore...just found out today from the vet as she is not fully vaccinated) and she has not pooped with us. She passes some horrible smelling gas (thanks Purina!). I'm worried although I can understand she is under stress in trying to adjust to us her new family which includes two preschoolers. I did tell the vet and she wasn't concerned.

Has anyone experienced this before? What was the outcome? Thanks!

If the pup does not have a bowel movement by tomorrow (friday) morning take sam to the vet, should go no longer than 3 days.

But Ive never had a pup that has done this. Also switch of Purina slowly onto something better, Purina is some of the worst of the worst food. Any pictures of little Sam?

I agree to switch your pup off of the Purina. There a alot of better foods you can find at the larger petstores/feed stores. Just find the best one you are comfortable with and can afford. There is a whole site on this forum that should make your brain explode :) ---> Feeding Our Puppy - German Shepherd Dog Forums to add to the mix, I don't even feed 'puppy' food anyway. Just a high quality adult kibble.

I would start walking that puppy again. With common sense (don't meet tons of strange dogs that my have irresponsible owners) you'll be fine. Can't miss those vital socialization stages by waiting for the shots or you may end up with a fearful/aggressive puppy that is a lifetime issue.

Puppy Vaccinations vs Socialization

Great info and ideas here ---> http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum/development-socialization/89870-why-bother-socialize-i-want-photos-videos-puppies-dogs.html

ALSO, there is tons of great reference material and information on --> http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum/welcome-gsd-faqs-first-time-owner/ so you will be prepared in advance for all the new things that will be showing up with a puppy in the house.

:)
